Negotiating Your Auto Accident Settlement? Follow These Tips

Posted on

Are you in the process of negotiating the settlement for an auto accident? If so, it will help to follow these tips so that you do not receive less than what you deserve.

Never Believe The Insurance Adjuster

Don't believe everything that the insurance adjuster says. Realize that the goal of the insurance adjuster is to pay out as little as possible for your injury claim, and they will say anything in order for that to happen. A common tactic that they will use is to tell you that they are making a final offer for your settlement. Chances are that it is not really the insurance companies final offer and there is still room to negotiate.

Never Give A Settlement Range

The insurance adjuster may ask you what you think a fair settlement will be for your injury. If you must give an answer to this, make sure that you give a very large range with a high end that is much more than you could want to settle your case. By giving a low settlement range, you are essentially capping how much you will receive from the insurance adjuster for your injury. If your case is actually worth more than what you thought the proper range was, you could end up losing out on thousands of dollars worth of compensation.

Ask For Pain And Suffering

Don't assume that you are not entitled to pain and suffering damages. Many people are focused on just having their medical bills paid for, which means they are missing out on a large part of their injury compensation. If your injury was caused by the negligence of another person, you could be entitled to receive pain and suffering because you had to go through an injury and all of the problems that resulted from it.

Never Imply You Need The Money

Some people think that it is a negotiating tactic to tell the insurance adjuster that you need the money right away or explain that you have medical bills that need to get paid. This is going to be noted on your case and used against you. If the insurance adjuster knows that you need the money soon, they may give you lower offers knowing that you are going to feel rushed to settle your case.
